2. Visiting Telluride
Telluride is one of the more modest Colorado vacation spots, but it has significant opportunities. The pristine snow makes it a winter paradise for downhill skiing and snowboarding. It’s also a wise choice if you’re on a tight winter vacation budget.
We suggest flying into the Montrose regional airport, about an hour away from Telluride. From there you can rent a car and enjoy a scenic ride to the mountain town.
Once you’re in Telluride, you’ll get to decide what type of activities you want to participate in! Be sure to bundle up, though. During December, it’s normal for Telluride to have highs around 37° f and lows right around 5° f.
While you’re there, we suggest trying your hand at snowmobiling. There are plenty of snowmobiling tours for all skill levels and age groups.
You can also take part in a historical town tour or a ghost town tour! You’ll be able to enjoy stunning sites while also learning about the history of the old mining days.

3. Winter Vacation Ideas for the Rocky Mountains
Snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling are just the start! When you get out to the Rocky Mountains, you can try your hand at ski biking, ice sculptures, and more! We suggest starting off by going sledding at Hidden Valley.
Hidden Valley is located in the Rocky mountain national park. It’s a prime sledding spot for adults and kids.
The kids can enjoy sledding down the safe bunny hill by using one of the snow tube rentals at Estes Park. When you need a break, there’s a warming hut where you can get toasty before hitting the hills again.
If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, you’ll love all of the wildlife opportunities that the Rocky Mountain National Park has to offer. During the quiet season, you’ll be able to spot elk hanging out in the park meadows. You can even find giant moose making their way through the snow.
Cross Country Skiers
We suggest spending the day at the Brainerd Lake Recreation area for cross-country skiers. Of course, if you want more challenging trails, head over to the east side of the Rocky mountains.

Another charming ski town is Beaver Creek, Colorado and it’s located in the Rocky mountains. After visiting, it’s sure to become your home away from home.
The charming ski town has a lot of great outdoor winter activities but on a smaller scale. You’ll only be about an hour and a half away from Aspen if you need more action. However, sometimes it’s nice to enjoy a vacation without too much hustle and bustle.
As a skier, you won’t have to battle with large crowds. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy all sorts of conventional trails that scan across acres of skiable land. Beavercreek also tends to stay sunnier than other spots.

For the best trip, we suggest flying direct to Beaver Creek. Instead of scrambling into Denver, which is 2 hours away, fly directly into the Eagle County regional airport. It’ll be easier for you to make your way through the snow by shortening your commute.
We also suggest booking a ski-in/ski-out hotel. That means you’ll literally be able to open the door of your room on skis and head out for the day.
